Walking Tour: DOCOMOMO Downtown Atlanta

Join a representative of the Georgia Chapter on DOCOMOMO (DOcumentation and COnservation of buildings, sites and neighborhoods of the MOdern Movement) for a special walking tour of Downtown Atlanta focusing on Modern sites, including buildings designed by SOM, FABRAP, John Portman, Robert and Company, and other nationally and regionally recognized designers. Participants will learn more about the development of Downtown Atlanta during the 20th Century and visit several historic sites. Included is a guided tour of the Marcel Breuer/Stevens and Wilkinson designed Atlanta Central Library. An introductory program will look at the impact Modern architecture made (and continues to make) on Downtown Atlanta. The tour will start in the lobby of the hotel. Cost: $20.00

Walking Tour: Historic Midtown

Step back into Midtown Atlanta's origins at the 1883 Peters House and its surrounding streets. This turn-of-the-century neighborhood is rich in its variety of residential architectural styles and stories of notable residents. Directions: MARTA: Exit at North Avenue station (N3). Walk 3 blocks east along North Avenue to the intersection of Piedmont Avenue. Cross Piedmont and turn left. Peters House will be on your right. Led by a representative from the Atlanta Preservation Center.
